Mirandela’s Alheira

For those unfamiliar with Mirandela’s Alheira, it is a typical sausage from the municipality of Montalegre in the region of Trás-os-Montes in northern Portugal. This high quality product is protected by different quality assurance seals such as Guaranteed Traditional Specialty (ETG) or Protected Geographical Indication (IGP). Alheira de Mirandela was also distinguished as one of the 7 wonders of Portugal in the starter category.

In Porto’s restaurants you can find Alheira as one of the dishes available, either as a starter or main course. The difference in duforno® Porto Coliseu is that we use the genuine Mirandela’s Alheira. Anyone who knows knows the difference in flavor between this sausage and all the others. The taste, smell and texture are unique.

Our starter of Mirandela’s Alheira with Nuts and Honey is made with a high quality puff pastry base, filled with Mirandela’s Alheira and finished with walnuts and a thin layer of honey. This starter is finished in the oven, without added fat, to offer a dish full of flavour, crunchy and with a slight bittersweet touch resulting from the mixture of the salty alheira and the sweet honey. Perfect for sharing at the start of a meal.
